The MICMP studies the multi-causal nature of Marshallese migration and its effects on migrants and communities in source and destination areas. It has a special focus on how climate change, ecosystem services, and well-being together influence migration decisions. There are three central research questions:
1. To what extent are climate related stressors, and their impacts on ecosystems, livelihoods and habitability,
driving migration in the Marshall Islands, and from the Marshall Islands to the US?
2. What are the impacts of migration on migrants themselves and their home communities (in the RMI)?
3. Which shared views on climate change, environment, migration, and future habitability exist within the study population?
